TOO DIFFERENT
Two different kinds of lovin
Too, different don’t you know,
Far, too far, apart to ever be a whole.
Two different kinds of lovin, too, different, can’t you see?
Two different kinds of lovin, you hang on and I set free.
In your embrace when we first met, I felt secure from harm
But now I cannot be myself. I’m a prisoner in your arms.
Just like the ancient story of the nightingale & king
He locked her in a golden cage then found she couldn’t sing.
Two different kinds of lovin
Too, different don’t you know,
Far, too far, apart to ever be a whole.
Two different kinds of lovin, too, different, can’t you see?
Two different kinds of lovin, you hang on and I set free.
My love gives you the freedom to be all you’re meant to be
To dream your dreams, to follow stars, to share your life with me.
Words of wisdom tell us, “What we love we must set free.
If it returns of its own will, then it is meant to be."
Two different kinds of lovin
Too, different don’t you know,
Far, too far, apart to ever be a whole.
Two different kinds of lovin, too, different, can’t you see?
Two different kinds of lovin, you hang on and I set free.
Two different kinds of lovin
Too, different don’t you know,
Far, too far apart. Together never whole
Two different kinds of lovin, too different, can’t you see
If you want to be together, set me free.
Set me free.

This song started when I was 20 after the ending of my first serious relationship. With youthful bravado I thought 'This is a great idea for a country western song and I will become rich and famous.' The chorus was written in minutes...then...I was stuck. No matter how many times I came back to the chorus, it took 36 more years of life experience, love and heartbreak to finally complete the whole song.
